While attending Malibu's Pepperdine University and frequenting one of the most crowded surf breaks in the world, it wasn't long before Behunin identified a serious disconnect between supply and demand for quality waves.
Behunin began his quest to create perfect surfing waves while holed up in a Tongan surf hut during a waveless 10-day monsoon. He connected with the Surfparks team in the fall of 2001 while holding down his day job as General Manager of Del Rey Properties, a real estate development, management, and construction company. DRP owns/manages over 50 buildings in the Los Angeles area, including over 350,000 square feet of commercial space and 300 units of multi-family housing and the 72-acre Los Angeles Equestrian Center
